Welcome! I’m Dr. Arela Agako, founder of the ACMH Clinic, which I established to provide culturally sensitive, evidence-based mental health care to the Albanian-Canadian community. As the first Albanian-speaking clinical psychologist in Ontario registered to work with adults, I am excited to offer therapy in both Albanian and English. ACMH was founded with a deep commitment to providing culturally informed care, to those in the Albanian-Canadian community who may be navigating the complexities of cultural identity in Canada.

I am a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from McMaster University. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience working in diverse clinical settings, including St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, where I was involved in specialized clinics such as Women’s Health Concerns, Mood Disorders, and Borderline Personality Disorder.

At the ACMH Clinic, I work with individuals and couples who are facing a wide range of mental health challenges. This includes trauma and PTSD, particularly complex PTSD and the effects of intergenerational trauma. I also support clients dealing with high-conflict relationships, Borderline Personality Disorder, and emotion dysregulation. In addition, I treat anxiety, depression, insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), stress, burnout, self-esteem issues, body image concerns, and relationship difficulties. With a focus on evidence-based, culturally sensitive care, I strive to create a compassionate environment where clients can improve their mental health.

In addition to my clinical work, I have contributed to various research projects, with a particular focus on understanding the role of emotions in mental health and treatment. My research findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals and featured in reputable outlets such as Psychology Today, Forbes, and Therapy Tips.

If you’re seeking a compassionate, professional environment to work through your challenges and take the next step toward healing, I would be honored to support you and your loved ones on your journey to well-being.
